Dodgers News: Daniel Hudson Doesn’t Sound Very Confident in Return This Season

This season has been somewhat of a whirlwind for the Dodgers. While they find themselves in a familiar spot with the playoffs coming up soon, it was a different approach to get here.

Different injuries and inconsistencies from players have taken their toll on this team, but LA has pushed through it all.

One of the tougher moments of the season came from veteran pitcher Daniel Hudson and the injuries that he has seen. After spending a year rehabbing a torn ACL, Hudson made his return to the mound and looked like he had never left.

But after only three games pitched, he suffered a knee injury and has been out since. There had been some hope that the veteran could return this season, but that dream is starting to look like it won’t come to fruition.

Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register provided an update on the status of Hudson.

Hudson hasn’t given up on the dream of returning to pitch this season, saying he remains “hopeful and optimistic … but I’m trying to be realistic at the same time,” Hudson said.

Per The OC Register

With only a few weeks left to go until the playoffs start, Hudson would need to come back soon to fine-tune things. The problem is that there isn’t a lot of time left, so it may not be in the cards this year.

“We’re running out of days,” he said. “We’ll see. I’m doing everything I can.”

Per The OC Register

Getting Hudson back would have really helped this Dodgers bullpen in the playoffs, but this injury doesn’t seem like it’s healing anytime soon. The last thing anyone wants is to rush him back, only to have it flare up again.

“It feels … I don’t know,” Hudson said. I’m just trying to keep my arm going just in case things turn a corner. Trying to get as much done as I can. Keep hammering away at it. … But right now it’s just kind of staying the same.”

Per The OC Register

The 36-year-old has dealt with multiple injuries over the last few seasons, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he hangs it up once the year is done. Both sides were hopeful for a return, but fate has had other ideas here.

More than likely, he won’t pitch this season. He was a relied-upon member of the LA bullpen when he was healthy, so this is an unfortunate situation all around.
