As the year has gone on, the Dodgers pitching issues have started to be minimized. They still have some problems, but it’s nowhere as bad as it was just a few months ago.
The team has seen players return from different injuries, or figure out ways to produce at a level that is expected. It has helped stabilize things for LA and has seen them rise in the standings.
However, the Dodgers are still missing one of their more relied-upon members from the bullpen over the last few years. That would be right-hander Blake Treinen, who is still rehabbing from surgery.
There was some hope that Treinen could return at some point this season, but it’s beginning to look like that was just a pipedream. Manager Dave Roberts gave the latest update on the veteran.
“I don’t know when he’s going to get back on the mound,” said Roberts, who has called Treinen’s return this season “a long shot.”
While this has been expected for some time, it’s still a blow to the bullpen as a whole. Treinen would have given them another strong, proven arm out of the pen come playoff time.
He was special for them during his last full season, posting an ERA of 1.99 and a WHIP of 0.98 in 2021. Treinen has dealt with injuries over the last couple of seasons that have forced him to miss a significant amount of time.
“Obviously with where we’re at, what he’s gone through, it doesn’t look great.”
With only a month left to go in the regular season, the chances of him returning to the big-league club this year are looking bleak. He would need time to refine his skills in games down the stretch of the season, and time is starting to run out for that.
LA will need to move ahead with the guys that they have ready to go assuming nothing changes over the next week or so with Treinen. He has a club option for seven million next year, making it likely for him to return if the team deems him ready.
It’s an unfortunate situation all around, but the hope is that he can get healthy and return next season.
