Cincinnati and San Francisco couldn’t complete their game that start last night thanks to heavy rains that came through the area in the 8th inning and continued throughout the night. With the game tied up at 2-2, the two clubs will return to the field today at 5:40pm ET to complete the game. It will be followed by the regularly scheduled game. Game two will begin at 7:20pm ET.

Starting Pitchers
Luke Weaver
Entering the game tonight, Weaver is sporting an ERA of 7.00 and he’s had one solid start since the start of June – he allowed two runs in 5.0 innings on July 3rd. Despite all of that, the Reds have won each of his last eight starts (his ERA is 8.66 in those eight starts).
While both lefties and righties have hit well against Weaver this season, righties have really crushed him. Right-handed hitters don’t walk much at all against him, but they hit for an average high enough that it would lead the league most years and have a slugging percentage over .600. Lefties walk a lot more often, but they aren’t walking much overall. They also make a lot more contact while hitting for a good average and showing plenty of power.

Anthony DeSclafani
It’s been 17 days since Anthony DeSclafani last pitched in a big league game, but he did pitch on the 13th out in Arizona on a rehab assignment after he was placed on the injured list with shoulder fatigue.
Left-handed hitters find far more success against DeSclafani than right-handed hitters do. They don’t walk much at all, but they hit for a good average and a good amount of power, while also making plenty of contact. Right-handed hitters also don’t walk much at all, but they also don’t hit for much average and only have mediocre power output against him.

News and Notes
Tony Santillan called up for the doubleheader
With teams allowed to expand the roster by one player on days in which they play a doubleheader, the Reds have called up reliever Tony Santillan to give them an additional pitcher if needed.
ZiPS likes what it’s seen from Matt McLain and Elly De La Cruz
Dan Szymborski ran some updated ZiPS projections for next year and the system spit out the numbers indicating that Matt McLain and Elly De La Cruz have done more this season than anyone in baseball to improve their projections for next year when compared to what those projections for 2024 looked like before the season began.
