Dodgers Game Updates vs Giants: Pitching Woes Create Opportunity for Emmet Sheehan

The Dodgers are continuing the youth movement with the call up of right-handed Emmet Sheehan. The 23-year-old former 6th round pick is making his MLB debut against John Brebbia and the San Francisco Giants. Brebbia is acting as the opener for Gabe Kapler’s Giants.

LA pulled off a much needed extra innings walk off win over the White Sox on Thursday and look to make it a win streak.

Here’s a look at the lineup Dave Roberts is sending out against the San Francisco righty.

J.D. Martinez is back in the lineup after a mental day off. He slots into the clean up spot behind Mookie Betts in right field, walk off hero Freddie Freeman at first and Will Smith at catcher. Max Muncy was placed on the injured list so Chris Taylor remains at third base for the next few days.

Jonny DeLuca starts in center.

Pitching Matchup

Emmet Sheehan has been exceptional at Double-A this season, going 4-1, with a 1.86 ERA over 12 games and 10 starts. He was actually promoted to the Triple-A last week but never made a start there.

John Brebbia has been San Francisco’s primary opener of late, “starting” in 5 of his last 7 appearances. He’s done well in the role, posting a 0.95 ERA over 18 career appearances. He has, however, struggled against the Dodgers over the years, going 1-1 with a 5.21 ERA in 20 games.
