The Los Angeles Dodgers are taking on the Washington Nationals at Dodger Stadium this week in a series that could not have come at a better time. After a series against the best team in baseball Tampa Bay Rays, following a series against the best team in the National League Atlanta Braves, it will be very nice for the Dodgers to take on a team that’s seven games under .500 and in last place in their division.
The Dodgers by no means can overlook the Nationals, who just won a series against the Kansas City Royals after playing back-to-back strong series against the San Diego Padres and Detroit Tigers. But it’ll still be a nice change from the playoff-level baseball they’ve been playing for what feels like a majority of the month of May.
The Dodgers and Nationals have their pitching matchups set for the upcoming three-game set, so as we do before every new series, here’s everything you need to know about the pitching matchups for each game.
The Rookie vs. The Vet
Rookie RHP Bobby Miller is taking the ball for the Dodgers in the series opener on Monday, hoping to get them off to a nice start against RHP Trevor Williams of the Nationals.
Miller shined in his MLB debut, and will be looking to build on that momentum as he hopes to remain in the rotation for a little longer.
Calling the Cat-Man
On Tuesday, RHP Tony Gonsolin is taking the mound for the Dodgers, looking to continue his dominant start to the 2023 season. He’ll be facing rookie right-hander Jake Irvin of the Nationals, who’s not off to such a dominant start in his career.
Noah Needs This One
In the series finale on Wednesday, RHP Noah Syndergaard is pitching for the Dodgers, going up against LHP Patrick Corbin of the Nationals, who’s actually been much better as of late. Syndergaard desperately needs a strong start to get his rough year with the Dodgers somewhat back on track. Maybe this is the one that does it.
First pitch for Monday’s game is at 6:10 p.m. PT; first pitch for Tuesday’s game is at 7:10 p.m. PT; and first pitch for Wednesday’s game is an early 1:10 p.m. PT.
