Starting Pitchers
Hunter Greene
Hunter Greene pitched well last Wednesday against the Mets, allowing two runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four in 5.1 innings, but he was the victim of zero run support and took the loss as the Reds offense failed to score more than one run off future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander.
Greene’s walk rate is just about the same as his walk rate in 2022, hovering around nine percent. However, nine percent is still high. Walking batters leads to more pitches which can lead to less innings pitched. As an example, Greene has completed six innings twice out of his eight starts and had a combined two walks in those appearances.

Connor Seabold
Connor Seabold is a 27-year-old right-handed pitcher drafted out of college in the third round of the 2017 draft by the Phillies. Philadelphia traded him to Boston in 2020 and he became a top 30 prospect with the Red Sox. After making his debut in September 2021 and pitching 18.1 innings for them in 2022, Boston traded him to Colorado in January. Seabold made the Rockies’ 26-man roster out of spring training and initially pitched out of the bullpen.
This season, after a very brief stint in Triple-A (one appearance for three innings), he was recalled at the end of April to replace an injured German Marquez. He’s faced two other NL Central teams, Pittsburgh and Milwaukee, as a starter and pitched five innings in both games, giving up three runs on seven hits to the Brewers and one run on three hits to the Pirates.
Before he got sent to Triple-A, Seabold was a reliever and didn’t pitch great, with a 5.27 ERA in 13.2 innings. However, to be fair, most of the runs he gave up came from four earned runs in three innings to the Dodgers in his first appearance of the season.
Much like Hunter Greene, Seabold mainly relies on his four-seam fastball and his slider. Unlike Hunter Greene, his fastball has topped out at 93 mph.

News and Notes
Matt McLain Called Up
Of course, the biggest news of all is that Reds’ #5 overall prospect Matt McLain is in Colorado and will start tonight at shortstop. You can read all about McLain here and here.
Tomorrow’s starter?
As of right now, the Cincinnati Reds do not have a starter listed for tomorrow’s game. However, they did add a pitcher from Triple-A Louisville to the taxi squad today and if he does start, it will be his major league debut. You can get all the details about Brandon Williamson here.
UPDATE:
Brandon Williamson, the Fairmont, Minnesota native, will be activated from the taxi squad and make his MLB debut Tuesday.
The lefty may pitch after an opener, but he will be pitching on regular rest.
