The Los Angeles Dodgers are really settling in to playing some great baseball. After Wednesday afternoon’s insane come-from-behind 10-6 win over the Phillies, the Dodgers have now won six straight, and have outscored their opponents 50-17 in that time span.
In the first two games against the Phillies, the Dodgers scored 26 runs on 32 hits alone while allowing just five runs on 11 hits.
The winning streak has coincided with the Dodgers finally getting close to full strength. Will Smith and Max Muncy made their returns to the Dodgers lineup, and in a snap, the team got going.
And Max played the hero of the game on Wednesday.
It’s also helped that Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman have gotten hot at the top of the Dodgers lineup, and rookie Miguel Vargas is starting to swing a good bat, too. Even Chris Taylor has had three straight two-hit games and has hit in 5 of 8 games.
Suffice to say, the Dodgers are finally figuring things out after a subpar start to the season — and the players are starting to feel it.
“I think we already knew who we were, it was just a matter of putting it all into action,” Mookie Betts said after the team’s 13-4 win over the Phillies on Monday night. “We’ve had some guys hitting and some guys not. Fortunately, we were able to put it all together tonight.”
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had high praise for his guys after that game, too.
“It was a complete contribution from everyone, from one through nine. It was fun to watch,” Roberts said. “Guys taking walks, Mookie homered late. Some balls that found some outfield grass. Just collectively, really good.”
That dominance continued into the second game of the series in an even more impressive 13-1 win. Six of the Dodgers’ starters had multiple hits in the game, including three by Betts and four by Vargas. The Dodgers hit just one home run on Tuesday, using small play to keep the rallies going and ultimately put the Phillies away early.
And it was punctuated by an impressive comeback win to secure the sweep for LA.
After a day off, the Dodgers will hope to keep the momentum going as they play their highly anticipated first series against the Padres this year.
The Dodgers definitely picked a good time to get hot.
