MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Ellis Garcia looked distraught.
West Virginia’s freshman infielder had twice failed to get down a safety squeeze bunt that could have potentially given the Mountaineers their first lead of the day against a TCU team that had been in complete command throughout the first five and a half innings Saturday at Monongalia County Ballpark.
Randy Mazey used an offensive timeout and called Garcia over to him. The West Virginia head coach didn’t berate his young pup for his failure or question his technique. Mazey could see the disappointment on Garcia’s face. He looked shellshocked.
