Dodgers RHP Tony Gonsolin remains on the injured list with the sprained ankle he suffered in spring training. Gonsolin has taken much longer to heal than initially expected, and on Thursday, Dave Roberts spoke to the media, and didn’t exactly share great news.
“It was okay,” Roberts said about Gonsolin’s pitching. “He got through it … which was the most important thing. I don’t think he threw his best. But that’s to be expected given it’s the first time he faced hitters.”
Roberts said Gonsolin is going to throw another bullpen session before facing live hitters again. Then, if all that goes well, he’ll begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The good news is Gonsolin hasn’t suffered any sort of setback, but the bad news is he’s not exactly close to making a return.
It sounds like the end of April target date is still in play, however, he’ll need to throw better in his bullpen session and the next time he faces live hitters before they can send him off to a rehab assignment.
