Freddie Freeman left Team Canada’s World Baseball Classic game on Tuesday with a hamstring issue. Dodger fans had to wait over 24 hours for a positive update, but finally, on Wednesday, they got it.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke to the media at Camelback Ranch, and gave a positive update on Freeman’s hamstring issue. He called the injury “mild,” and said that his status for Opening Day is “not a concern at all,” (per Jack Harris of the LA Times). Phew.
Dodgers fans can take a huge sigh of relief, as the last thing this team needed was an issue with Freeman, arguably the team’s most important player. We don’t know what the exact timeline will be for Freeman, but for now, it’s safe to assume he’s going to remain out of the WBC, and just focus on getting healthy for Opening Day, which is 15 days away. Roberts did make it sound like Freeman will be back in the Cactus League lineup at some point soon, so that’s great news, too.
The Dodgers have been hit with more than enough injury issues this spring, so it’s nice to know this one is not, in fact, an issue. We’ll continue to update you when we learn more, but for now, Dodger fans, you can all take a collective sigh of relief.
