Will ownership spend if the Reds get good again?
Earlier today we looked at articles from Dan Szymborski of Fangraphs and JJ Cooper of Baseball America as a part of looking into when the team could contend again and how and why the ownership could approach adding to a team built mostly from the farm system if that happens.
Eric Davis on Elly De La Cruz
C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic spoke with Eric Davis about Elly De La Cruz. Davis has been working for the organization for 14 seasons in various roles but is now a special assistant in player performance and can be seen on the minor league side of instruction and evaluation often.
You saw him here in the Arizona Complex League, what have you seen from him?
The question is what haven’t I seen? Right? His abilities are second to none. I think the most important thing that Elly does is the things that you see every day — his smile, his enthusiasm, his ability to understand the game is genuine. And you just don’t see that in today’s game with someone so young. His love for what he does outshines to glory that he gets. And that’s what makes for a special player.
There’s a whole lot more to the article than that, but it felt like a good part to include before you head over to read the rest of it.
Injury updates on Matt Reynolds and Tony Santillan
Infielder Matt Reynolds has a mild grade 1 quad strain in both quads, but he’s only expected to miss a few days.
Reliever Tony Santillan is throwing a side today. He’ll likely still be out on Opening Day, but he’s progressing well enough to return in early/mid April.
