In the MLB world, January 15th is known as international signing day. It’s a day when clubs around the league can sign top international prospects and make their dreams come true. Teams have an 11-month span from January 15-December 15 to make signings; however, most of the top players are taken on the first day, which was the case on Sunday.
The Dodgers were heavily involved in international signing day, as they signed 13 players on day one, including the number three overall prospect, Joendry Vargas, and the number 23 prospect, Arnaldo Lantigua.

The top two prospects the Dodgers signed were from the Dominican Republic. LA signed four other prospects from the Dominican Republic: two righty pitchers and two shortstops.
LA signed seven other prospects from Venezuela: four right-handed pitchers, two short stops, and one catcher.
The Dominican Republic is always filled with baseball talent. Superstar players like Pedro Martinez, Albert Pujols, Vladimir Guerrero, and, more recently, Juan Soto are just a few who have come out of the DR and impacted the game of baseball.
The Dodgers made their way back to Venezuela to get some more talent, and who can blame them? The number one prospect in their farm system today is Venezuelan catcher Diego Cartaya, and he is projected to make his way to the big leagues this upcoming season.
Now, even though they signed with the Dodgers doesn’t guarantee them a chance to ever play in the big leagues. However, the Dodgers are the best at having their prospects pan out, so don’t be surprised if we know about more than half of these names due time.
