Dodgers News: Andrew Friedman Addresses Lack of Impact Trade

After all the Juan Soto buildup, the Dodgers largely stood pat at the MLB trade deadline. San Diego wound up trading for the Nationals superstar, sending multiple top prospects and Luke Voit in exchange for Josh Bell and Soto. LA appeared to be kicking the tires on trades for Marlins starter Pablo Lopez and (or) Cubs outfielder Ian Happ. Instead, team president Andrew Friedman and general manager Brandon Gomes made some moves around the margin.

The Dodgers sent pitching prospect Clayton Beeter to the Yankees for struggling two-time All-Star Joey Gallo, shipped pitcher Mitch White to the Blue Jays for prospects, and sent Jake Lamb to the Mariners for cash considerations or a player to be named later.

Prior to first pitch on Tuesday, team president Andrew Friedman addressed the Padres adding Juan Soto, Josh Bell, All-Star closer Josh Hader, and Reds standout utility man Brandon Drury (quote via The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya)

“It wasn’t surprising to us.”

The Dodgers team president remarked that he feels “good” about how he and his team went about exploring potential trades (quote via OCR’s Bill Plunkett).

“I feel good about the team that we have in place and the way that they’ve performed for us. If we had an acute need, you’d see us be more on tilt and things where it’s less of an acute need, it’s more about talent and how it fits short term, long term. There’s just a different process that goes into that.”

Clearly, Friedman and the Dodgers are relying on the current crop of talent, and the impending return of impact players like Dustin May, Walker Buehler, Blake Treinen, and Chris Taylor to push them to their second title in three years.

In Friedman we trust.
