MLB Rumors: Brewers Receiving Trade Inquiries for All-Star Reliever Josh Hader

The weekend before the MLB trade deadline is typically a time where impact players not though to be available start popping up in trade rumors. Teams looking to cash in on household names start exploring potential trades to boost their farm systems. Especially when a team is willing to part with an All-Star caliber reliever like Josh Hader.

During Sunday’s slate of games, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported that teams have been contacting the Brewers about potential trades for four-time All-Star closer Josh Hader.

“Teams have been calling on Josh Hader. No indication he’s particularly available but Brewers usually seem willing to listen, in case.”

In his first 19 appearances this season, Hader didn’t give up an earned run and yielded just four hits and six walks. He owned a microscopic .069 batting average against and 0.58 WHIP.

However, in his last 18 appearances, he has a 8.82 ERA through Saturday and hitters own a 1.077 OPS against him.

Trading Hader, which, doesn’t seem likely according to Heyman, would be an interesting move for a Brewers team that after play on Sunday, is three games ahead of the Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.

Dodgers in the Mix for Hader?

At the moment, there hasn’t been any confirmation that the Dodgers are one of the those teams contacting Milwaukee about a prospective Hader trade. Based on team president Andrew Friedman’s previous comments about trading for a reliever, LA acquiring the Brewer’s four-time All-Star doesn’t seem very likely at the moment.

“I hate trading for relievers at the deadline. It’s my least favorite thing to do. The acquisition cost is totally out of whack. So I like to avoid it as much as possible.”

The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday, August 2nd (3PM PT).
