Dodgers News: Uneven Clayton Kershaw Start & Coors Field Lead to LA Loss

The Dodgers snapped their six-game winning streak against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night in a 5-3 loss at Coors Field. After putting up three runs in the first three innings, the Dodgers failed to score in final six frames to help fuel a come-from-behind win for the Rockies.

Clayton Kershaw Struggles

Saturday night was an unfortunate reminder of Clayton Kershaw’s career-long struggles at Coors Field. Clayton gave up five runs, three earned, in 5.1 innings pitched. He gave up not one, but two early leads on Saturday night.

With the Dodgers ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Kershaw gave up a triple to Randal Grichuk to hand the Rockies a 4-3 lead. The next hitter, Elias Diaz, singled to score Grichuk from third.

Kershaw was unable to put away hitters, logging just three strikeout.

To be fair, the high-altitude stadium, is notoriously hitter friendly and can devour starting pitchers. There’s a reason that prior to first pitch, his worst career ERA is at Coors (4.81) among stadiums where he’s made at least two starts.

More Untimely Hitting

For the second night in a row, the Dodgers struggled to hit with runners in scoring position. Over the team’s last two games, they’re a combined 1-for-18 with RISP. Hanser Alberto had the lone hit with RISP to plate Freddie Freeman in the third inning to give LA a 3-2 lead.

Don’t Run On Mookie Betts

One of the lone bright spots from Saturday night’s 5-4 loss was Mookie Betts logging another impressive outfield assist. Grichuk hit an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the first that he tried to stretch into a double. Betts was having none of it.

The Dodgers will look to win the series tomorrow with Tony Gonsolin on the bump. First pitch is set for 12:10PM PT.
